Chopin Etude With a Lisbon View - Op. 25 No. 5 "Wrong Note"
I have recently moved to Lisbon for my first job, and holy moly it has been an adventure. Especially trying to record this on the last day before moving to another apartment again... The Chopin Etude Op. 25 No. 5 struck my attention when watching Your Lie in April, since there is such a beauty in the "chaos". It is extremely difficult to play this with relaxed hands, since the left hand is constantly playing tenth intervals, and worse. At the same time, the right hand needs to play in very specific patterns, especially in the last part where the main melody is repeated with an extra third note added in the middle of the right hand. I was hoping to get it all down a bit more accurately, but for now this is the best I can do. I hope you enjoy it! Voyage - Original Composition for Cello and Piano
Download the sheet music here: https://frankmeijering.wixsite.com/piano/sheet-music It has been an entire year since I wrote this piece; I even performed it live with my cello teacher. However, I felt the need to make an entire recording by myself. And due to a lot of busy months, as well as procrastination, I only started recording this in October. First the piano, and a month later the cello. I would lie if I would say that this was a simple one-take process... I am much less confident on cello compared to piano and thus chose to record this in multiple shorter parts. There is no way I can play this beautifully if I want it in one take. Afterwards, it took me about 3 weeks to do the audio engineering (with my great friend Tristan) and the video editing. About the piece: it is heavily inspired by Joe Hisaishi's works. I absolutely love his music and it is such a great fit with cello. I wrote all melodies myself, but some "crazy" chord changes are based on Hisaishi (for example, "Departure" from Kiki's Delivery Service). Additionally, the final chord sequence is based on the ending of Ella Fitzgerald's and Joe Pass's version of "'Tis Autumn". A bit random, but beautiful haha. Robert Schumann - Träumerei [Frank Meijering]
Träumerei ("dreaming") from Kinderszenen ("scenes from childhood") is a beautiful little piece that has an overall nostalgic feeling. I have played this piece for months before actually recording it, just because I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Just playing the notes is not enough. Luckily, the Yamaha C7 at X TU Delft provided me with inspiration; it sounded much better than at home. I also slightly changed my approach to the audio engineering aspect. I used an XY microphone position close to the piano, with a room mic in the back of the hall. In the audio post-processing I used slightly more compression (compressors are not the devil) than I otherwise would have, and I think it makes it more pleasant to listen to. Let me know what you think! My website: https://frankmeijering.wixsite.com/piano Microphones: Samson C02 Recording software: Studio One 3 Artist Camera: Canon EOS 200D

Rachmaninoff - Vocalise (Piano Accompaniment in E minor)
Play-along piano accompaniment of Rachmaninoff's Vocalise, in E minor, intended for cellists, singers, etc. who want to play a duet! I am totally fine with anyone using this to film and upload their own duet, but I would appreciate it if you mention me in your caption. I started learning vocalise on cello, and learnt the piano part as well to accompany another cellist. Then I decided to record the piano accompaniment properly, but I have not yet been able to really "perfect" the cello part, but hopefully sometime in the future I will, and I will upload it as a new video!! I thought it would be valuable anyway to just upload this piano part, since I have seen many piano parts online and I usually don't like the digital piano sound etc.. I try to emphasise the musicality here, with the advantage of having played the cello part myself. I hope you enjoy! Kreisler-Rachmaninoff Liebesleid // Ravel Pavane (LIVE at @wibisoerjadi1531 )
Having had the pleasure to attend the Summercourse with Wibi Soerjadi, I played two of my favourite pieces in a concert for all the coursers. I have learnt so much during the course, and I have met extraordinary people. Thank you to everyone for making this experience unforgettable!! Please excuse the tractor noise; perks of playing a concert outside ;) 00:14 - Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte 06:23 - Kreisler-Rachmaninoff: Liebesleid My website: https://frankmeijering.wixsite.com/piano

Sarabande & Menuet from Bach Cello Suite 1 (Frank Meijering)
The Bach cello suites are the most famous cello pieces ever written, and the Prelude from suite 1 is perhaps the most iconic. However, non-cellists may forget that the suites are full of much more beautiful pieces, and in this performance I wanted to highlight the Sarabande and Menuet from the first suite. I am very proud of my progress compared to my first attempt at the Prelude, 3 years ago (https://youtu.be/uNuXYT5xPbo). It also feels like a step forward from my Joe Hisaishi performance 1 year ago (https://youtu.be/86yebgDh-l0), since these Bach pieces require more delicate bow control and phrasing. 00:00 Sarabande 03:30 Menuet My website: https://frankmeijering.wixsite.com/piano
